26. October 2011
Over 300 microfinance actors and decision makers are expected to attend the European Microfinance Week from 3 to 5 November 2011 at the Abbaye de Neumünster. ADA will be involved in the conference through three sessions addressing recent microfinance topics, on which ADA is focusing through its projects: responsible finance rating, access to energy and risk management.
Responsible finance rating
In a context where the social performance of microfinance institutions is becoming more and more important ("double bottom line"), The Rating Initiative has developed in collaboration with the Ford Foundation and the four specialised rating agencies, a new full financial rating product for microfinance institutions which includes key social performance indicators. The product was developed based on feedback from investors and other stakeholders, and is being tested as a pilot project.
The Rating Initiative was launched by ADA in collaboration with numerous of public and private partners to promote transparency among the microfinance sector.

Access to energy
ADA initiated a project linking microfinance and access to energy in 2011. The "Energy Inclusion Initiative" is a pilot project targeting microenterprises and SMEs in developing countries, led by ADA in partnership with Microenergy International. The aim is to incorporate renewable and efficient energy products into the portfolio of microfinance institutions, with the ultimate goal of improving health, and increasing economic, social and environmental well-being in rural areas.

Risk management
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a major global financial center, risk management is therefore among its core competencies. In microfinance, traditional risk management is usually done with a lack of transverse vision and little regard for risk aggregation or reinforcement. In this context, ADA, ATTF and PRiM have developed a course entitled "Excellence in Risk Management", which will be offered to senior managers of microfinance institutions during the European Microfinance Week.
