With its partners in West Africa, ADA is involved in a research project consisting of establishing a microinsurance scheme tailored to the needs of micro-entrepreneurs: the Credit Benefits Plan (in French: Régime de prévoyance-crédit or RPC).
This life insurance product provides precious assistance. In the event of death, the burden of the loan of the micro-entrepreneur is no longer borne by their families, because the debt to their microfinance institution is cancelled. In addition, a lump sum is paid to the bereaved family to help cover funeral costs.
The RPC plan was tested in 2005 in Togo and in 2006 in Burkina Faso and subsequently deployed on a wider scale, in six major mutual savings and loan networks in West Africa. This innovative project has been subscribed to by more than 295,000 microentrepreneurs.
- Target countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal and Togo
- Partners: 6 CIF mutual savings and loan networks members of the "Confédération des institutions financières d'Afrique de l'Ouest" (CIF)
- Number of beneficiaries: 295,000 microentrepreneurs
- Volume of loans provided: 205 million euros
- Number of disasters: 387
