UNITED TO UPHOLD OUR COMMON INTERESTS

By uniting to form professional associations, networks and working groups, microfinance institutions seek to defend their joint interests and promote microfinance to the regional or national authorities, the financial sector, the general public, etc.

In this context, ADA technically and financially accompanies eleven associations in the implementation of their action plan. They represent a total of 392 microfinance institutions and more than 8 million customers. In 2008, this collaboration spreads to several countries on three continents:

In Africa:

  • APIM, the Professional Association of Microfinance Institutions in Mali,
  • AP-SFD, the Professional Association of Decentralized Financial Systems in Senegal,
  • AEMFI, Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions in Ethiopia,
  • CONSORTIUM ALAFIA in Benin,
  • ANIP, the Nigerian Association of Professional Microfinance Institutions,
  • FAM-F, collaboration with the Federation of microfinance associations in Cape Verde.

In Latin America:

  • REDCAMIF, a network of 6 Central American professional associations,
  • ANDARES, a foundation that supports the microfinance sector in Argentina especially through capacity development,
  • ASOMIF-Peru, the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Peru,
  • ASOMIF- Nicaragua, the Association of microfinance institutions in Nicaragua,
  • RED CHILE, the Network for the development of microfinance in Chile.

In Asia:

  • CMA, Cambodia Microfinance Association,
  • VIETNAM MFWG, Vietnam Microfinance Working Group,
  • LAO MFWG, collaboration with the Lao Microfinance Working Group in progress.

3 new regional experiences! ADA organised three regional workshops on strengthening MFI professional associations and networks, which allowed true experience sharing. The workshops took place in Panama for associations from Latin America and in Dakar for associations from West Africa and Cap Verde. A third workshop carried out in collaboration with BWTP and SEEP brought together microfinance associations and networks from Asia. These fruitful experiences largely motivate us for similar initiatives in 2009.
